Sternians win Hockey
The Sternian teams won the hockey tournament against LWC on 8th January. Well done to them all and thanks to captains Verity Phillips (2010 Gosden) and Andy House (2011 Sutton).
Sternian and LWC governor Simon Clements
Simon (1976 Summerfield) has been elected as a Master of the Bench for Grays Inn. Masters of the Bench are elected in recognition of
the contribution that the candidate has made to the life of the Inn or to the law. Simon will now be required to contribute actively to the work of the bench, including participation in the Inn’s programme of Continuing Education and sitting on one of the chosen committees.
Simon said: “It is not only an honour to be elected as Bencher, but this is also a great opportunity for me to tell the members of Gray’s Inn and others more
about the work of the CPS.”
Prideaux Building opened
Sir Humphrey Prideaux cut the ribbon to officially open the Prideaux Building on 15th September 2011, watched by invited guests, governors, staff and Sternians. This state of the art building makes maximum use of energy efficiency measures and houses Maths, Business Studies, Economics, Psychology, Higher Education and Careers, a dance studio which can also be used for meetings, conferences etc and fine views over the campus from both ends of the building.
Legacy Club Trip 2011
Clickety Click and off we went for a trip on the Mid Hants Steam Railway known as the Watercress Line. We steamed through the Hampshire countryside enjoying a cream tea, glorious weather and tales of LWC. What could be better! For more information on the Legacy Club, please contact Kate Chernyshov in the Development Office on 01256 860243 or on chernyshovk@lordwandsworth.org.
Congratulations to the CRY Crusaders and The 7 Deadly Sins!
We had a fast and furious Sevens and Netball Tournament on Sunday 11th September. The CRY Crusaders made up of Sternians Toby Comley, Nick Priggen, Chas Penn, Matt Thompson, Mark Feeney, Mike Salmon and Steve Parker regularly play together to promote the charity CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) in support of Sebastian English who died in 2004 and it showed! They won against Tim Salmon's team with Tim, Jamie Dunkley, Tim Dixon, Jack O'Connor, Matt Arnold, Alex Patrick and Christo Arundel and Mark Buckley, 24-14 in a thrilling final. Our thanks to the 2011 Leavers' team and the Zimmers staff team who actually won a match this year!
The Netball was equally fast paced with 3 Sternian teams, the College 1st XII and a Staff team, but the girls of 2006 won handsomely wnning all four of their games with good margins. The team was Danielle Bidos, Kate Lloyd, Emma Thurston, Emma Goater, Chloe Bidos (2010), Beth Champion, Georgina Smith and Jess McIntosh
Thanks to all who took part or supported. Date for next year is Sunday, 9th September 2012

Henley Regatta 2011
We had a fantastic day at Henley on Sunday 3rd July courtesy of Tom Copas (1955 Sutton) with a boat trip up the Thames, fabulous food and drink and great rowing to watch. We were very fortunate to have our own marquee provided by Tom and his wife Brenda and our group of Sternians, parents and staff enjoyed it very much.
Sternians Cricket Twenty/20 against LWC ist XI
A gloriously sunny day saw a great team assemble for the annual match against the College. Many of this Sternian team were playing for LWC last year so there were scores to be settled! A closely fought match saw LWC just beat us again so let's hope we will be third time lucky next year.
Sternian Reunion 2011
Thanks to all who attended the Summer Reunion at LWC on 18th June. Heartfelt and emotional tributes were paid to Peter Booth who retires this summer and the Headmaster gave the assembled company an overview of the past academic year and his plans for the next. The year of 1986 turned up in strength during the afternoon and were delighted to find former staff Roger Davies and Tony Whibley amongst the throng.
Sutton House Reunion May 2011
Ten of the first boys to enter Sutton House from 1944-1955 returned for a reunion in May, with other family members. They had a tour of the house with current Sutton boys, found themselves in the house photos which are up in the hall, reminisced with current and former housemasters and had a jolly good lunch. We toured the College during the afternoon, checked the old barn which is now Park House, watched the cricket, poked about in the Sternians’office and had a thoroughly enjoyable time in the sunshine. Among those who attended were Mike Skinner, Gordon Pitt, Ron Burlingham, Bob Hunt, Wally Sanders, Les Cullen, John Dudley, Colin Terry, Colin Bullock and David Cheston.
A tribute to Bill Fryer - A well known teacher who died last year.

George Clatworthy 0567 attended the South West reunion at Tormarton in March with his wife Doris and was in fine form, his death just a month later is very sad. His funeral was held in Taunton and attended by fellow Sternian David Hicks 0545 and his wife.
Malcolm Ruddock served for many years on the Executive Committee as Honorary Secretary with distinction and his death, at just 58, comes as a great shock. Just three weeks prior to his death, he had joined in the Sternian Mountaineering Club’s April meet in North Wales where he appeared fit and well. His funeral was held at Ruislip on 10th May and attended by several of his Sternian and mountaineering friends.
Sternians welcome former parents as Associate Members
The Sternians Association has taken the innovative step of inviting all former parents to join as Associate Members of the Association. The motion was passed at the AGM and recent former parents will start receiving information electronically so there will be no expense for the Association. Other parents are welcome to join and need only contact the Sternians Office.
The commitment of parents can be as long as ten years or even more if they have several children at the College. It seemed logical to enable that involvement with the Lord Wandsworth College community to continue. Friendships with staff, pupils and other parents are forged at concerts, plays and on the often bitterly cold Long Sutton touchline. We look forward to seeing them at Sternian functions.
